Over the past five years, Shore It Up had grown from 20 to 13,000 volunteers and from 3 event partners to 43. This tremendous and unexpected growth was a result of Metro Pacific Investment Foundation’s (MPIF) commitment to Rescue, Restore and Revive the environment.
This year, Shore It Up is celebrating its 5 years of protecting the environment. Thus, to make sure that environmental programs started by Shore It Up were sustained, Shore it up will go back to the 4 destinations it helped for the last four years namely Anilao, Puerto Galera, Hundred Islands and Subic.
To complete the five destinations, Shore It Up added Siargao Island for this year where it will spearhead the first ever Siargao Mangrove Marathon. This event aims to increase awareness in mangrove protection and start to make its LGU partner, Del Carmen, to be the center for carbon offsetting in the country.
Another important thing that makes Shore It Up different this year is the start of its campaign to help boost the domestic tourism of the country. Shore It Up aims to partner with Department of Tourism (DOT) and its regional offices where Shore It Up projects will be held namely Region 1, Region 3, Region 4A & 4B and Caraga. Although the main focus of Shore It Up is to protect the environment, the considerable number of volunteers involved in each project translates to tourism receipts as it always require accommodation, transportation , meals and other requirements.
Shore It Up will use the new DOT slogan tailored for corporate social responsibility.
With this new endeavor, Shore It Up will not only bring a positive environmental impact to its destinations but economic and socio-cultural as well – components for a successful sustainable tourism program.
